My logo!

Today, I finished my logo for Computing class, in my opinion, it looks quite good, but who knows.

First of all I would like to clarify I am not communist, it is just a joke. I started doing a Pacman logo, but somehow, it turned into this. It was quite fun doing it, and it really helped me to start understanding Inkscape.

Hope you enjoy it!

Inkscape: Magic Potion

This week we started doing some tutorials with Inkscape, a program that uses vector graphics. We had to get used to completely new tools, but most of them were relatively similar to the ones of GIMP, so we didn't have too many issues.

We used a website full of tutorials about doing drawings, all of them related to fairy tales, I personally chose the magic potion. I actually tried to do the map, but it was really difficult (or at least for me).

You can see the magic potion that I did, as can be seen previously.

Of course, if you want to see the tutorial, click right here. It even includes a video detailing the steps of how to do it.

Animation made by Gimp!

This week we made an animation with Gimp if it wasn't obvious from the title.

We learned about the basics of animation, mainly how to start doing them and how to actually save them and to be able to share them. We used the layers to make the actual animation, and then with the animation option we were able to see the end result, aside from being able to speed it up or down.

This was the animation I made:

Yeah, I don't have any imagination, but  I hope you like it!

Clone and Heal Tool (GIMP)

These past two days I investigated about the Heal and Clone tool and the circumstances where you may use it.Both of them are used basically with the same purposes, so if you are new with Gimp, don't worry, this will not be overcomplicated.

Both of them are for copying the sampled area, or in other words, duplicating whatever image you want in the original image. They have an important detail that differentiates them, though.

Clone Tool

  • The clone tool is used to just duplicated the sampled area to the selected area, only the colours. This is mostly used to repair areas with problems in digital photos, but it has many more uses.
For example, Iran tried to trick the world by releasing this photo to the public, but if you pay a little bit of attention to the smoke, you will notice the use of the Clone Tool. You can find the details of the story
    here:http://revealingerrors.com/send_in_the_clones
Using the clone tool is really easy, just follow this steps:

  1. Click the tool icon (see above) in the toolbox.
  2. Press Control and click the part of the image you want to copy, this is for setting a target.
  3. Now you can start duplicating!
Heal Tool:

  • The Healing Tool is used to duplicate the sampled area to the selected area. Sounds familiar, right?
  •   In the most basic sense, they are used for the same purpose, but the Heal Tool, doesn't just copy the colors of the image, it also copies the texture, lightning, transparency and even shading. It is extremely useful to correct imperfections in the face (like wrinkles)

Now you can see the image with a few touches of the Heal Tool, it is specially noticeable in the eyes:
In the most basic sense, they are used for the same purpose, but the Heal Tool, doesn't just copy the colors of the image, it also copies the texture, lightning, transparency and even shading. It is extremely useful to correct imperfections in the face (like wrinkles)

Using the heal tool is just as simple as the clone tool:

  1. Click the tool icon (see above) in the toolbox.
  2. Press Control and click the part of the image you want to copy, this is for setting a target.
  3. Now you can start duplicating!

Highschool Decoration

For our Gimp project we made the decoration of a higschool (I did mention it in my week report sometime ago). I finished it, and now I can share it, here it is:

The side part looks surprisingly good (not the drawing, just how natural it looks), the front parts looks good, also, but it's so bright,it looks unnatural. I also had some problems with the tree...

I did like doing this, definitely helped to improve my GIMP techniques.

Weekly Post #2

Gif found in:http://www.la-coffee-melodie-suite.com/gif-image-slideshow.html

This week in Computing Class we started working on our next Gimp Lesson: decorating our high school.

Basically we were given an image of our high school from the exterior in which we were supposed to make a drawing and put it on the walls of the high school in a way that it actually makes it look natural. As of right now I still haven't finished, so I will post the end result next week (or at least I hope to).

We finished the week by sharing Gimp tricks to other classmates, I told the class how to undo or to redo your drawings (Control + Z for removing stuff, Control + Y for redoing stuff), for example.

I would like to try all of the tricks tomorrow, I just hope that I can remember all of them!

Weekly Post #1

This week in class we investigated 6 different  image formats and when to use them, by far the biggest help was these posters that we found about some of the image formats:

For the  page with the WHOLE poster, you can find it here:
http://louisem.com/6598/ima
We separated into groups and started to investigate them, our group was a little bit disorganized, but we managed to do it.

We finished the week by doing two posters about them and their characteristics, you can find them in our Computing class, but for the readers that aren't part of the class, this page has tons of information regarding image formats and they probably do a much better job at explaining it than myself :

Definitely worth a read!

Not a nice week in Galicia!

After spending a week in Galicia for New Year and Three Kings Day, I would have liked to post some photos of myself spending a nice and sunny week there...

But i's exactly the opposite, the whole week was full of rainy and windy days, a complete storm, fortunately it wasn't so severe and there wasn't any type important damage, but several traffic problems occured just because of this, and several trees were even cut off, it was definitely a pity not being able to see The 3 Kings parade without completely soaking yourself. I have some images of the storm:

You can literally say it was the windiest week of the entire year!
